The overwhelming majority of truck drivers know how to change lanes in a safe and efficient manner. Unfortunately, some truckers are not as responsible and often hastily change lanes without checking. If you have been injured in such an accident, you may be entitled to compensation.
The idea of filing a personal injury claim against a trucking company may sound scary, but irresponsible trucking companies and drivers should never be allowed to place the lives of others at risk. Burlington County truck accidents caused by unsafe lane changes can be deadly, and if you are suffering from injuries, you will need to work with an adept Burlington County truck accident attorney who knows how to handle trucking companies.
The Dangers of Irresponsible Drivers
Truck drivers are required to undergo extensive training and licensing procedures. Before operating a truck, they should have a firm understanding of safety regulations and laws. They are taught how to safely change lanes and deal with the massive blind spots their trucks create. Despite such extensive training, some truck drivers fail to take safety seriously.
These irresponsible drivers are frequently hired by irresponsible companies who encourage them to engage in unsafe behaviors in an effort to save time and money. Many Burlington County truck accidents caused by unsafe lane changes are entirely avoidable, and countless lives can be saved when a truck driver checks their surroundings before making a lane change.

Factors Behind Unsafe Lane Changes
Burlington County truck accidents caused by unsafe lane changes are common on major highways. Truck drivers must undergo a significant amount of training, but that training is irrelevant if a driver chooses to engage in careless driving tactics. Lane-changing truck accidents are often caused by the following factors:
- Aggressive driving or lane-changing techniques
- Misjudging distance from other vehicles
- Failing to check the adjacent lane for other vehicles
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Using a cell phone or attempting to text while driving
Tired or fatigued drivers are far more likely than other types of drivers to unsafely change lanes. Sadly, many trucking companies encourage drivers to meet tight deadlines and forgo sleep so they can save money and make more deliveries. This is unfair to other drivers and goes against federal laws that require truckers to rest periodically.
Injuries Sustained by Burlington County Accident Survivors
When a large truck weighing multiple tons collides with a smaller car or truck, the injuries sustained by the individuals in the smaller vehicle can be life-threatening. Many of these injuries can leave a person permanently disabled and unable to live a normal life or return to work.
Injuries such as broken bones, concussions, cuts, and bruises are common. Even though they are not life-threatening, they can be painful and expensive to treat. More serious injuries, such as internal organ damage, hemorrhaging, brain damage, spinal cord trauma, and burns can be devastating. They can result in death, and even when they do not, can require years of medical treatment and rehabilitative care.
