Contacting Law Enforcement
People should call the police right away after they have been involved in a pedestrian accident in Camden because an individual wants the police to come out to the scene and report on what has occurred. This process can secure a few things.
Most importantly, it preserves evidence. This allows the police officer to describe in their report what happened, where the impact occurred, whether the pedestrian was in the crosswalk or not, and allows that police officer to gather all of the information from the motor vehicle driver so that they can get their insurance information, name, and address. Contacting law enforcement early on allows everything to be protected.
Collecting the Driver’s Information
The best way to obtain the other driver’s information is by contacting the police. The police officer will be able to gather all of that information from the defendant driver. If for some reason, the police officer is not available, or they are not able to get to the scene, the individual should be sure to get the driver’s name, their address, and their insurance information. The insurance information includes the name of their insurance company and their policy number.
An individual should also obtain the other driver’s license plate number. Sometimes, the insurance provided is not accurate insurance, and the only way to try to find the accurate insurance is by doing a motor vehicle search. That can be done through the license plate.
