A Proud History of Leadership and Service
The origins of this organization trace back to the early 1960s, when a group of concerned African American men in New York City formed a coalition to address the systemic barriers facing their community. After taking their mission to Washington D.C. 100 Black Men Inc. was founded in 1986, and has now grown to become a powerful force for change, with over 10 Chapters in the country.
Mission: Realizing the Full Potential of the African American Community
The mission of 100 Black Men focuses on four key pillars:
1. Mentorship: The organization believes in the transformative power of mentorship. Through one-on-one relationships and group mentoring programs, they provide guidance, support, and inspiration to young African American men and women. These mentorship initiatives aim to cultivate leadership skills, build self-confidence, and foster a sense of purpose.
2. Education: Education is at the heart of the organization’s mission. They work tirelessly to bridge the achievement gap by providing scholarships, tutoring, college readiness programs, and career exploration opportunities. By investing in the education of young people, they ensure that future generations have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a competitive world.
3. Health and Wellness: Recognizing the importance of physical and mental well-being, 100 Black Men promotes healthy lifestyles through various initiatives. These include health fairs, wellness workshops, and partnerships with healthcare providers to address issues such as diabetes, hypertension, mental health, and access to quality care.
4. Economic Empowerment: Economic stability is crucial for the growth and sustainability of communities. The organization supports entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workforce development programs. By empowering individuals with the tools and resources to achieve economic independence, they contribute to the overall prosperity of the African American community.
