A New Jersey woman has filed suit against Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, Inc. after slipping on a wet substance and falling at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania in January. The injured victim is seeking damages in excess of $150,000 from Parx for what she claims is negligence that resulted in a variety of medical and lifestyle issues, such as neck pain, mental anguish, suffering, emotional upset, humiliation and general loss of enjoyment of life.
The Parx Casino case reminds us of just how common slip and fall accidents are, and how they can happen to anyone at any time. Whether we are on the job, running errands or trying to enjoy a night out with our loved ones, we all run the risk of having our lives disrupted by someone else’s negligence. The National Floor Safety Institute reports that falls account for over eight million emergency-room visits per year, representing the leading cause of admissions, and that slips and falls account for over a million of those incidents.
Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that slips and falls are the number-one cause of accidents in hotels, restaurants and public buildings and that 70 percent of those accidents occur on flat surfaces.

Slip and fall accidents can lead to a multitude of long-term health issues, including knee injuries, shattered bones, muscle injuries, neck injuries and even paralysis.
According to the National Institute of Health, the average cost of an emergency-room visit is $1,233. This figure doesn’t factor in the extensive long-term care that may be required to treat lasting injuries.
