Truck accidents can be painful and traumatic, especially when the trucking company refuses to take full responsibility for its actions. This is unfair, and if you have been injured in an overloaded truck accident, you may be able to obtain compensation for your pain and suffering.
Burlington County overloaded truck accidents are relatively common and often impact safe and responsible drivers. If you believe your accident was caused by an overloaded truck, a dedicated Burlington County truck accident attorney may be able to help you file a claim against the trucking company and handle the insurance company.
Why Are Overloaded Trucks Dangerous?
Overloaded trucks can pose a serious threat to drivers, even when the truck is only traveling a short distance. For this reason, trucking and loading companies should strive to ensure cargo is correctly and safely loaded according to safety regulations. Overloaded trucks can be dangerous in the following ways:
- When a truck is overloaded, most of the weight will usually shift to the rear, making the truck difficult to steer and control
- Heavy trucks can cause poorly constructed bridges and roadways to collapse
- Too much weight on the tires of a truck can cause them to burst and backfire
- Heavy trucks often have a higher center of gravity which causes them to turn over more easily
- Heavy trucks are harder to stop and have a longer stopping distance
When an overloaded truck collides with a vehicle, the outcome can be devastating. Unfortunately, irresponsible trucking companies often overload trucks to save time and money, making these accidents more common than they should be.

Other Factors to Consider With Overloaded Truck Accidents
Cargo weight is a major factor in Burlington County overloaded truck accidents. However, other factors can also play a role in accidents, especially when they involve large trucks. In addition to cargo weight, the following factors can cause a truck accident:
- Speeding and reckless driving
- Inadequate vehicle maintenance
- Driver fatigue
- Improperly secured cargo
- Distracted driving
All of these factors can be dangerous and trucking companies should take great lengths to ensure they do not become a problem. Trucking companies should only hire drivers who show they are committed to safety. Before a truck hits the road, its cargo should be inspected to ensure it is properly secured.

Holding Multiple Parties Liable
After a truck accident, survivors often assume the truck driver is the only responsible party. This is a relatively common assumption, but survivors may be able to hold multiple parties liable in court.
Of course, truck drivers should be held accountable for their actions, but their employers and other parties are often also responsible for encouraging the unsafe behavior they engage in. Trucking companies often cut corners and neglect safety regulations to reduce operational costs, unaware their actions can have a profoundly negative impact on the safety of drivers.
If an overloaded truck crashes due to a mechanical error, survivors may be able to hold the manufacturer of the vehicle liable in some cases. Loading companies should also be held responsible if they overload the truck or improperly secure the load. If you are trying to determine who is liable for a Burlington County overloaded truck accident, a skilled Burlington County personal injury attorney can help.
