While taxis have been a common way to get from one place to another for a long time, rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft have revolutionized the industry. However, when a taxi or a rideshare driver causes an accident, it can become unclear who is liable for an injured person’s damages. If you were hurt in a recent rideshare collision, a Haddonfield Uber/taxi accident lawyer could make a substantial difference in your claim for compensation. Reach out to an experienced car crash attorney for help with pursuing legal recovery.
Who is Liable for a Passenger’s Injuries after an Uber Accident?
A customer who is injured in an accident could have a claim for damages against the driver of the vehicle he or she was riding in, in addition to any other at-fault drivers. If an Uber driver does not use the legally mandated standard of reasonable care while driving, he or she could be held liable for his or her passengers’s damages in the event of a collision.
Uber and Lyft have supplemental coverage for their drivers, which applies to accidents that happen while a driver has a passenger in the car or is on his or her way to pick someone up. However, if an insurance company denies coverage, an injured claimant should consider contacting a Haddonfield attorney about pursuing an Uber accident claim. A rideshare driver is a contract employee, so insurance and liability issues may be more complicated in certain cases.

Assigning Fault after a Taxi Collision
Taxi companies are liable for the safety of their customers. If an accident is caused by a taxi driver’s fault, injured parties may seek compensation through the cab company’s insurance policy. Most states require taxi drivers to carry more injury coverage than other motorists, usually between $250,000 and $500,000 per accident, but that can be more or less depending on the local laws.
Unlike rideshare drivers, taxi drivers are employees of the company, which makes identifying liable parties somewhat easier. A lawyer with experience in litigating taxi accidents in Haddonfield could pursue damages from both the company and the driver on an injured claimant’s behalf.
