A leading car manufacturer has designed a new truck safety system promising to prevent trucking accidents and save truck fuel at the same time.  Daimler Trucks North America recently introduced its Detroit Assurance Safety System to promising reviews.

The Detroit Assurance Safety System has two components, adaptive cruise control and active brake assist. Adaptive cruise control is a forward-looking radar-based system that maintains preset following distance from a vehicle ahead of the truck.  With an active brake assist, the truck will be slowed dramatically ahead of an imminent trucking accident collision.  Both the adaptive cruise control and active brake assist have been designed with the goal of mitigating crash impact.

When in operation, the Detroit Assurance Safety System effectively manages the truck’s forward space cushion which also leads to a more fuel efficient vehicle. Other features of the system include an optional lane departure warning system, which gives audible alerts if a truck driver crosses out of a driving lane without using a turn signal.

Reviews of the Detroit Assurance Safety System have been favorable. Test drivers report that the system is very aware of its surroundings and successfully works to keep fuel efficiency a high priority.  The system also received praise for its unobtrusive nature and its gentle braking and acceleration motion. The designers of this proprietary technology continue their testing and have pledged to introduce this potentially life-saving technology into Daimler’s trucking line in the near future.

Due to the large size and weight of trucks and tractor trailers, trucking accidents involving passenger cars can result in devastating physical injuries including broken bones, paralysis, traumatic brain injury and even death.  If you or your loved one has been injured in a truck accident you may be entitled for compensation for the costs of past and future medical treatment, rehabilitation and therapy, lost wages and pain and suffering.
